Kateryna*, aged 52, has left Ukraine with her 14-year-old daughter Liliya* who has severe cerebral palsy and needs 24/7 care. They have traveled with a woman called Inna* who is helping mothers and their children with disabilities to get out of Ukraine and access the support they need in Poland and other countries.
Kateryna and Liliya hid in a basement when the sirens started but the conditions were too hard to take care of Liliya’s needs - it was difficult to even carry her wheelchair down there.
Kateryna has four other children who are all over 20 years old and have stayed in Ukraine. She is very worried about them, but they told her that she must go in order to get the support that Liliya needs.
Thanks to ActionAid's intervention, today Kateryna is going to a rehabilitation center in Poland, where Liliya can receive the care she needs.
With our work, we are supporting many women and girls fleeing war and we act so that the girls at risk can continue to grow up safely and with the appropriate care.
