A mobile platform will help fight gender-based violence in Jordan
ActionAid Switzerland and ActionAid Arab Region are partnering with the Swiss based Kahane foundation to fight sexual harassment and gender-based violence in Jordan.
The grant will help to scale up a simple mobile platform, whose development has been led by women and girls, which provides useful information on awareness, protection and complaint mechanisms, contacts and links to service providers.
Women and girls from refugee and hosting communities in Jordan face frequent sexual harassment and gender-based violence: this risk is exacerbated further by the Covid 19 pandemic and the economic hardship. Isolation and fear are obstacles to seek protection, psychosocial counselling and legal support.
The online platform, a Facebook chat box, provides women and girls with rapid, easily accessible and tailored information and support services, offering a safe escape from social isolation.
The project targets both women and men, boys and girls, increasing their awareness about women’s rights and the unacceptability of abuse, harassment and violence.
