Our work in Senegal
An update from the country

The Senegalese population relies mainly on agriculture and pastoralism. Climate change makes it difficult for families to grow enough food, and 39% of the population lives in poverty, whilst 17% of children under the age of five suffer from chronic malnutrition.
In the country, only 39% of women have a basic education, and violence against women and girls is widespread. 26% of women have undergone female genital mutilation, and 1 in 3 girls is married off before reaching the age of 18.
What we’ve done
- 800 people sensitised about gender-based violence through artistic activities and community events
- 30 women leaders trained to support victims of violence
- 250 women involved in the forum for activism against violence against women and girls
- 6 classrooms refurbished to improve access to education and the quality of learning
- 200 women supported in setting up a cooperative to facilitate access to land and work
