{"id":3303,"date":"2025-01-21T18:43:01","date_gmt":"2025-01-21T17:43:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/actionaid.ch\/?post_type=story&#038;p=3303"},"modified":"2026-03-04T16:57:41","modified_gmt":"2026-03-04T15:57:41","slug":"khushi","status":"publish","type":"story","link":"https:\/\/actionaid.ch\/en\/story\/khushi\/","title":{"rendered":"Khushi is studying again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u202f<\/span>In Dhaka, Bangladesh, <strong>millions of boys and girls are forced to work in factories<\/strong> to support their families. <strong>Khushi is one of them<\/strong>. At just <strong>12 years old<\/strong>, she had to drop out of school while she was in fourth grade. Her mother works as a housemaid, but her income is not enough to support the family. That\u2019s why Khushi started working in a garment factory to help.<\/p>\n<p>Every morning she would wake up at 6 a.m. to face long hours in the spinning department, where she was mistreated by her supervisor. \u201c<strong><em>I don\u2019t want to work in a factory anymore<\/em><\/strong>,\u201d said Khushi, who dreamed of going back to school and becoming a doctor. She just wanted to study, play with her sister, and cook \u2013 things every girl should be free to do.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ActionAid Bangladesh, together with its local partners<\/strong>, heard Khushi\u2019s story and decided to take action. Through meetings with her family, they explained the importance of education and girls\u2019 rights, including protection from labour exploitation. <strong>After months of effort, Khushi was able to leave the factory and return to school.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Today, Khushi is back in class, <strong>determined to fulfil her dream of becoming a doctor<\/strong>.
