Flooding in Nepal
ActionAid continues to provide assistance
On 26 August 2026, a catastrophic flash flood hit Nepal along the Bhote Koshi–Trishuli river system, causing severe damage and numerous casualties in the districts of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Gorkha.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing. As of 7 September, 1,356 bodies have been recovered, while 4,994 people are still missing or unaccounted for. 13,396 people have been rescued and 6,676 injured people have received medical care. Overall, approximately 1.6 million people have been affected by the emergency.
The floods damaged homes, roads, bridges, schools and healthcare facilities, and also caused extensive losses to farmland and livelihoods. Rasuwa remains the epicentre of the emergency, but the consequences also extend to Nuwakot, Dhading and other districts.
Reaching the worst-affected areas is extremely challenging: many roads are damaged, several bridges have collapsed, and trucks leaving Kathmandu can take up to 10 hours to reach their destination.
Together with our local partners, ActionAid has managed to reach several affected communities and continues to distribute essential supplies to the most vulnerable people.
On 7 September, in Thupche, in Nuwakot district, we provided assistance to 100 families, distributing hygiene kits; clothing and essential items for women and men; cooking utensils and food; mattresses and blankets.
In the days before, in the districts of Rasuwa and Dhading, we also distributed 1,400 kg of food, 200 blankets, 180 sleeping bags, 150 hygiene kits and 150 mosquito nets.
We continue to monitor the situation and work with local organisations to provide assistance to families who have lost their homes, crops, jobs and all sources of income.
