A catastrophic flood has hit central and northern Nepal, causing deaths, people to go missing and widespread destruction across several communities.

The death toll has exceeded 1,000, while more than 4,500 people are missing—a number that continues to rise. Around 317,000 people have been affected and 40,000 have been forced to leave their homes.

ActionAid has been working in Nepal since 1982 and has intervened in the past to provide emergency assistance following floods and earthquakes in the country. Thanks to our experience and extensive presence on the ground, we were able to respond immediately and are coordinating the response with local authorities, humanitarian organisations and local partners.

We are supporting affected people by providing:

  • emergency shelter and essential supplies;
  • food and safe drinking water;
  • hygiene and sanitation kits;
  • first aid and psychosocial support;
  • protection for girls and boys, women, older people and people with disabilities;
  • support for families who have lost their homes or livelihoods.
